US Finalises Countervailing Duties on Chinese Truck Bed Covers
Commerce has issued a final affirmative countervailing duty determination on truck bed covers from China. Rates land at 77.17% for Changzhou Sunwood and 11.60% for Hangzhou Golden Sun, while several exporters receive 142.11% based on adverse facts available; the all-others rate is 43.43%. The case sits alongside the companion antidumping case A-570-223, and duties are only collected once the ITC makes its final injury ruling.

- FMC Proposes Retaliatory Measures Against Spain
The Federal Maritime Commission is consulting on two remedies over unfavourable shipping conditions in Spain: a US$200,000 per-voyage fee on all Spanish-flagged vessels and restrictions on the import of certain Spanish goods. Comments are open until December 14, 2026, and Spain can request a hearing. Carriers and importers routing through Spanish ports should price in the added cost and rebooking risk now.

- Drewry WCI Rises 3% as Asia–Europe Breaks a 13-Week Slide
Drewry's World Container Index rose 3% to $4,485 per 40ft container, led by Asia–Europe. Shanghai–Rotterdam climbed 6% to $3,522 and Shanghai–Genoa 7% to $3,945, while six blank sailings were announced for next week. Carriers are pushing FAK rates of $4,500–$4,800 on Asia–Europe from October 19, so space commitments made this week should be re-checked against the new levels.

- Container Ship Sinks in the Strait of Hormuz
The Singapore-registered GFS Pride sank after it was struck by an unidentified projectile and caught fire; all 21 crew were reported safe. The IMO says it is the third commercial ship sunk during the Iran war. For buyers with Middle East routing, the sustained risk of attack is now a live schedule and insurance variable, not a one-off.

- Khor Fakkan Faces Fresh Congestion Pressure
The relaunch of a Gemini Far East–Middle East loop is expected to add to congestion at the UAE's Khor Fakkan terminal. Buyers routing Gulf-bound freight through the port should expect longer dwell times and build slack into delivery windows.
Factory & Manufacturing
- BMW Begins Sixth-Generation Battery Production in Shenyang
BMW Group started volume production of its sixth-generation high-voltage batteries in Shenyang, Liaoning — a step toward building Neue Klasse models in China. The RMB 10 billion (about US$1.49 billion) project uses a large cylindrical cell design developed with Chinese battery makers including CATL and EVE Energy. Shenyang is BMW's largest production base worldwide, with more than RMB 120 billion invested since 2010, and the site rolled off its seven-millionth vehicle in May. Localised cell capacity of this scale reinforces China's position as the base for high-voltage component supply.

With a 10-billion-yuan (about 1.49 billion U.S. dollars) investment, the battery project features advanced large cylindrical cell design.
- SK Hynix Ties US NAND Plant to China Equipment Access
SK Hynix is reportedly bargaining for approvals to keep exporting chipmaking equipment to its China facility in exchange for building a NAND flash factory in the US, with upstate New York floated as a site. The trade-off shows how tightly export controls now bind memory supply decisions that ripple into component lead times and pricing.
- KRONES Opens EUR 200 Million Second Plant in Taicang
The German filling-systems maker KRONES opened its Taicang Plant No. 2 on October 13, a EUR 200 million project covering a 120,000 m² site with around 76,000 m² of new buildings. The plant is designed for an annual output of 500 filling-system sets, with projected annual output value above RMB 5 billion at full ramp. For buyers of beverage and packaging lines, it expands German-engineered capacity inside China.
